Today begins IOWA’S SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK March 21-25.
Jasper County Communications will be participating in the Statewide Tornado DRILL this WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23rd, 2022. Siren activation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and run approximately 1 minute.
OUTDOOR SIREN REMINDER: Systems activated by Jasper County Communications are designed to provide notification to persons outdoors. Siren testing is done the first Wednesday of the month at 10:00 am unless there are weather conditions that may appear to look like severe weather in the area.
The following are guidelines for activation of warning sirens by Jasper County Communications:
*A tornado warning is issued by the National Weather Service
*A tornado or funnel cloud reported by a trained spotter or public safety official
*Multiple 911 calls are received suggesting confirmation of a tornado
*Winds exceeding 72 MPH are imminent or occurring
*Strong winds accompanied by hail capable of producing serious injury
*National Weather Service confirmed or imminent golf ball size hail [1-3/4”] or larger. Hail of this size will typically break windows and can cause significant bodily injury
There will NOT be an “all clear” activation of the outdoor sirens following a live emergency activation. Persons should monitor sources such as NOAA All-Hazard Radios or local media.
This week is an opportunity to highlight the importance of being aware of, and prepared for, severe weather. It is also an ideal time to review your family’s emergency plan, check the contents of your emergency kit, and sign up to receive alerts to stay weather aware.
